Got a MyPoints.com gift certificate today

September 10th, 2004 at 05:10 pm

Got a $25 restaurant gift certificate from MyPoints today. Just for reading e-mails and taking trial subscriptions for some magazines that I ended up re-selling on eBay Smile

The certificate arrived a lot faster than promised (they said 4-6 weeks and it was here in less than 2).

All of the e-mails that you receive from them are worth something ("points") so at least you're getting an opportunity to get something back for reading your e-mail.

Hi I've looked at mypoint website (after reading your post). They look very interesting. Have you had any problems with them. Are there any pitfalls you could tell me about.

No pitfalls with the mypoints website itself; it's professionally run. Some of the deals I've tried out haven't really panned out, but these do no reflect upon mypoints but on the companies that sponsored the deal. For example, I signed up for a trial in a program that would send me a pair of walkie-talkies as a free gift. If I didn't cancel within three months, then they would bill me $89 annual fee for the service. Well, 10 weeks into the program, no walkie-talkies. I still cancelled in time, but didn't make off with the bonanza I thought I would.

Otherwise you get a 1-2 e-mails a day with the service, and most of them count for points. If you just read the e-mails and take advantage of a few "free' offers, it will take you months to get a $25 gift certificate (I'd been in it for about a year or so, and just cashed in for the first time). They can change terms and conditions at any time, so I probably wouldn't wait too long to cash them in. Get things while you can!
